In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company, which is an acronym for the famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”. This phrase expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." ASICS' extensive range of running shoes caters to all levels of runners, from professional athletes to those simply keeping fit.

Several top shoes include the GEL-Kinsei 4, the GEL-Noosa Tri 7, and the GEL-Cumulus 13. ASICS also recently developed the 33 series of shoes, which includes both the men's and women's GEL-Neo33, GEL-Excel33, and GEL-Blur33.
